EPA must clarify ag regulations

Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) chairman of the U.S. House agriculture committee is asking Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson for a response to a list of questions from a bipartisan group of lawmakers. Lucas submitted the request to EPA nearly six months ago; he followed up with a letter on Thursday. But he downplayed the risks to the U.S. economy, even as lawmakers expressed concerns about rising gasoline and … [Read more...]

In the last election cycle, Lucas, R-Cheyenne, donated more than half a million dollars to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP's campaign arm, putting him near the top of donors to the committee. He gave thousands more to individual candidates. And though he has typically eschewed flashy fundraising events, preferring small breakfast groups of donors, … [Read more...]

Agriculture Committee Chairman Awaits Analysis of GIPSA Rule

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas says it’s important to have transparent economic analysis in federal rulemaking. A case in point is the proposed GIPSA (Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture) rule on livestock marketing. A year has passed since a group of lawmakers sent a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack requesting a public report on the costs and benefits of the proposed rule, Lucas recalls. Last week, Cass Sunstein, the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the … [Read more...]
